The youth-driven Carmel Green Teen Micro-Grant Program will be awarding checks to five local youth groups to fund their volunteer eco-friendly, green projects.  Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard will be present at the check awarding ceremony to congratulate the motivated youth and to support them in their commitment to community service and to the environment.

350On Saturday, October 24, 2010, people from around Carmel gathered to ring bells as part of the largest day of climate action ever. Carmel joined more than 5,200 community actions in over 181 countries coordinated by 350.org to urge world leaders to take bold and immediate steps to address climate change and reduce carbon emissions to a safe level – 350 ppm. Carmel United Methodist church also played a part by ringing the church bells 350 times.

One of Over 5,200 Simultaneous Events in Over 181 Countries

Carmel, IN: October 24th—People from around Carmel gathered today to ring bells 350 times as part of the largest day of climate change activism ever.  Carmel United Methodist church also played a part by ringing the church bells 350 times. Participants joined more than 5,200 communities in over 181 countries as part of a global day of action coordinated by 350.org to urge world leaders to take bold and immediate steps to address climate change and reduce carbon emissions.

Mayor Recognized at U.S. Conference of Mayors Leadership Meeting

Carmel, IN – Mayor Jim Brainard is one of 16 mayors who were selected to be profiled by the USCM in a report on mayoral leadership, The Power of 86 Million Americans: 1,000 Mayors Committed to Climate Action. This report highlights specific actions mayors are taking around the country to meet the goals of the Mayors Climate Protection Agreement (www.usmayors.org). Brainard was highlighted among mayors from other cities such as Atlanta, Boston, Philadelphia and Miami.

City of Carmel Considering City-provided Residential Trash and Recycling

June 2009 - Mayor Brainard has formed a Trash Advisory Committee to look into the feasibility of city-provided trash and recycle trash service for Carmel residents.  To determine if this is reasonable and cost-efficient, City of Carmel Utilities put together a Trash Survey to investigate the current costs and details related to curbside trash and recycling service.  Although the mayor's office and committee have compiled preliminary survey results, the survey will remain available at City of Carmel Residential Trash Survey.
