2023 EARTH DAY ART CONTEST
Let our children’s voices inspire you to live more sustainably. Doing something simple can be a powerful way to show you care about protecting the planet for young people.

Many thanks to 238 youth from Kindergarten through middle school from 13 schools, green teams, after school programs, 8 scout troops, congregations, and home schoolers who submitted their eco-friendly artwork for the 11th annual Earth Hour—Earth Day Art Contest. With this program, young people learn about energy conservation and environmental stewardship through art to encourage energy savings at home, schools, congregations, and businesses. More than 4,840 youth have participated since we started the program in 2010.

This community education initiative draws on the energy conservation message of Earth Hour and the earth stewardship message of Earth Day to emphasize the important connection between saving energy, saving money and caring for our beautiful blue planet. We incorporate environmental educational content from E.P.A. Energy Star Schools to inspire youth to save energy through simple actions such as turning off lights, the TV, the computer and other electronics when leaving the room.
Indiana gets almost all of its electricity from coal, the greatest source of air, water and global warming pollution. For Hoosiers, saving electricity is one of the easiest ways to save money and be good stewards of the earth.

“When people see my artwork, I want them to notice that the earth gives people warmth,
oxygen, plants, food, and that people should treat the earth with compassion
just like it does for us. I believe saving energy and protecting the planet are important
because we are already focusing on making another planet inhabitable
for humans and animals, but not giving our own planet the same attention.”
