COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Help staff the CGI table at community events such as Farmer’s Market and Carmelfest. These volunteer opportunities require no preparation and are limited to just a couple hours of your time. It is a great way to meet people and let them know about local environmental sustainability efforts. There are several events throughout the year to choose from.
SUSTAINABLE LIVING SEMINARS
Join the team to plan & organize the Sustainable Living Seminars at the Carmel Clay Public Library. We hold approximately 4 seminars each year. This is a great way to raise environmental awareness and requires 1-2 planning meetings prior to the event plus assisting at the event. Or just help out for a couple hours on the evening of the seminar.
GREEN GIFT SHOP
Help plan & organize the Green Gift Shop, which takes place in the fall. The Green Gift Shop offers a green alternative to holiday shopping. It requires a few planning meetings prior to the event plus the assisting at the day of the event. Or just help out for a few hours on the day of the event.
THE PROMISE PROJECT
The Promise Project is a youth-led program for kids. It empowers Carmel youth to ask their leaders to keep their promise to protect the future for their generation. Youth are encouraged to get involved to make a difference. Adults can volunteer to help mentor youth leaders.
EARTH DAY ART CONTEST
Carmel Green Initiative hosts an annual environmental art contest in collaboration with several community partners to raise awareness about energy conservation and earth stewardship through art. This community education initiative runs from October to May. There are several ways to participate from volunteering just a couple hours to helping plan the art contest.
SOLARIZE HAMILTON COUNTY
Solar is one of the most powerful ways to reduce carbon emissions. To help promote solar in Hamilton County, Carmel Green Initiative hosted its first solar tour in 2010 and its first solar program in 2017. Solarize Hamilton County has helped 30 homeowners go solar over the last 2 years. In 2019, Solarize Indiana partnered with Solar United Neighbors to offer the Hamilton County Solar Co-op. We are seeking a Program Director to assist with scheduling, promotion, coordinating volunteers, and facilitating solar workshops to promote solar in Hamilton County. Workshops take place in Spring through Fall.
ADVOCACY
Carmel Green Initiative advocates for policies at the local, state and federal level that promote sustainability in partnership with peer groups. Help follow bills and provide action alerts.
HAMILTON COUNTY CLIMATE ROUNDTABLE
Assist with outreach, planning and organizing a county-wide roundtable discussion on climate change.
CURRENT IN CARMEL ARTICLES
Join our team to write and publish a monthly guest column in Current in Carmel regarding sustainability and other green topics.
WEBSITE & OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA
Assist with the CGI website, Facebook and Twitter for an average of 2 hours per month.
