When it comes to recycling, everyone has a part to play. When we all work together we can make sure recyclable materials don’t end up in our lakes and landfills.
Cindy Muse, Carmel Green Initiative, provided a hierarchy of waste management. It’s best to reduce consumption in the first place where possible! And reuse as much as you can. She also provided updated stats on paper, aluminum, plastic, glass, e-waste and food waste!
Craig Lutz, Republic Services, Manager of Municipal Sales, spoke about the valuable service they perform. Republic Services believes in the preservation of a Blue Planet, a cleaner, safer and healthier world where people thrive… not just for today but for generations to come.
Leslie Taljaard, Director of Hamilton County’s Household Hazardous Waste Center, spoke about the recyclables and household hazardous waste that her facility collects from Hamilton county residents. She also gave some statistics on waste and recycling in Hamilton County.
Earth Mama spoke briefly about their local compost collection service. About half of household garbage comes from kitchen and yard waste. In a landfill, this organic waste rots into methane. So it’s better to divert it! You can compost at home or have a service pick-up for commercial composting.
