Late May 2024 Newsletter

Greetings!

Hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day. Thanks to all moms working to build a more sustainable future for kids and grandkids!

Here’s a quick reminder about ways to care for our shared Mother Earth and a shout out to Westfield Mayor Willis…

Tax Credits to Go Green
Join us this Thurs, May 16, 6 p.m. at the Carmel Library to learn about super efficient heat pumps to cut your carbon footprint!  Hear from a local installer about what to consider when replacing a gas furnace with a heat pump. Also, learn about tax credits available through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) for insulating your home, installing heat pumps & solar, purchasing an EV and more.  Learn more and RSVP.

Solar for CCS
As you celebrate high school graduations, keep in mind that climate change poses a threat to your student’s future.  CCS is a big source of carbon pollution in Carmel and should take advantage of the 30% IRA incentive for solar.  It’s the cleanest energy you can get, saves energy dollars that can be redirected to the classroom and protects the school district against rising electricity rates. Plus, it provides hands-on STEM learning for students and protects their future by reducing the school’s carbon footprint. If you support SOLAR FOR CCS, please sign the petition.

Solar for Your Church
On Wed. May 15, 7 p.m. join Solar United Neighbors on Zoom to see how you can help your church go solar to care for Creation.  SUN will cover solar technology, economics, financing and the 30% incentive available through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) for non-profits.  The program is free and there is no obligation.  Learn more and RSVP

Kudos to Westfield Mayor
Huge thanks to Mayor Scott Willis for speaking out against Duke’s rate hike!  Duke Energy is Indiana’s largest source of carbon pollution (more than all the cars in Indiana combined), and is dragging its feet on clean energy (only 3% renewables). They’re burning the world down and have the nerve to ask for another rate increase to double down on coal and give their shareholders more money.  If the IURC approves this rate hike, the average family would pay $42 more per month for electricity. It would also mean higher energy costs for schools, businesses, churches, and taxpayers who foot the city’s electric bill.  Read more here.   Sign the petition to stop Duke!
