Newsletter – March 2026

Greetings!

You have the power to make a difference.  Here are some green updates, programs and events…

Heads up for Earth Hour
To protect our children’s future, don’t forget to turn off the lights on pollution this Saturday at 8:30 pm! Doing something simple is a powerful way to show you care. “Switching off” remains the easiest way to make a difference. Electricity is the biggest source of pollution in Indiana because most of our power still comes from coal! And it’s getting more expensive. We can save money and make a difference with one simple habit—turning things off when we’re not using them!  Lean more.

For a little Earth Hour inspiration, we’re sharing children’s artwork about saving energy and going solar on Facebook! Going solar at home and school provides the cleanest power you can get and protects against future rate increases!  Be sure to LIKE & SHARE the ones that move you! The one with the most LIKES on April 14 will receive the EARTH HOUR FACEBOOK FAVE award.   Click here for CGI Facebook.

Easy Composting
Composting your organic waste returns nutrients to the soil and reduces methane emissions from landfills. Earth Mama Compost is offering a discount for Carmel residents. For just $7.50 per pickup, you get all the essentials: a 5-gallon bucket with easy-off lid, compostable liners, and a list of compostable materials.  Place the bucket at the edge of your driveway every 2 weeks for pickup.  Plus, you can opt to pick up some of the nutrient-rich soil in April for your garden beds. Visit Earth Mama to sign up for curbside compost pickup!

The Clean Swap Workshop
Join us on Thurs, May 7, 6:30 p.m., at the Carmel Library for the Clean Swap workshop! Before 9 am you’ve already been exposed to many chemicals and microplastics harming your health. Let’s change that! In this free workshop you’ll learn about hidden killers in your home, how to protect your family and how to make your own cleaners & personal care products. Read more and RSVP

Solar for your Home or Business
To protect against rising rates at your home or business, join us on Thurs. Aug. 20 to learn about solar basics. It’s the cleanest energy you can get, right where you need it. After it pays for itself, energy from the sun is free!  Read more and RSVP.

Easy Ways to Go Green
Make sustainability your top priority. Everything we do impacts our earth in some way. Change habits that will lessen your impact on our shared home. We can do this together!  Here’s how to calculate your household carbon footprint and some easy ways to go green.  In general, the big sources of carbon emissions for the typical household and business are electricity, transportation and CAFO beef.
