Shred-it & Recycling Day
This Saturday, August 8, 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. at Creekside Middle School, Carmel Utilities is hosting a community event including document shredding, electronics recycling, safe prescription drug disposal and bulk item disposal.  Read more.

Solar 101
Join us on Thurs. Aug. 20, 6 p.m. at the Carmel Clay Public Library to learn about solar basics for your home or business.  Solar is the cleanest energy you can get, right where you need it, and It protects against future rate hikes. Once a solar system pays for itself, the energy it produces is essentially free. Solar helps build energy independence and a better future for kids & grandkids.  Learn how to take advantage of Central Indiana Solar Co-op, a group purchasing program.Carmel solar owners will share their stories about going solar.  Read more and RSVP. 

Earth Mama
Composting your organic waste returns nutrients to the soil and reduces methane emissions from landfills. If you can compost in your yard, that’s great!  But if you can’t, Earth Mama is offering a discount for Carmel residents. For just $7.50 per pickup, you get all the essentials: a 5-gallon bucket with easy-off lid, compostable liners, and a list of compostable materials.  Place the bucket at the edge of your driveway every 2 weeks for pickup.  Plus, you can opt to pick up some of the nutrient-rich soil in April for your garden beds. Visit Earth Mama to sign up for curbside compost pickup!

Make a Clean Swap
We had fun at the Clean Swap workshop! We learned about hidden chemicals and microplastics harming our health and how to protect our family by making a clean swap. Huge thanks to ReTHink for showing us how easy it is to make tooth powder, laundry powder and room spray.  You can find the recipes here.

Easy Ways to Go Green
Make sustainability your top priority. Everything we do impacts our earth in some way. Change habits that will lessen your impact on our shared home. We can do this together!  Here’s how to calculate your household carbon footprint and some easy ways to go green.  In general, the big sources of carbon emissions for the typical household and business are electricity, transportation and CAFO beef.
