Greetings!

As carbon pollution heats the planet, warmer air holds more moisture, making extreme downpours and flooding more likely.  In August, Indiana was hit by a devastating 1,000-year flood that caused an estimated $5 billion in damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure.

Looking ahead, we need to build resiliency while addressing the root cause of climate-fueled disasters: burning fossil fuels.

Here are some green updates, programs and events…

Data Centers
Join us on Thurs. Oct. 29, 6 p.m. at the Carmel Clay Public Library to learn about AI data centers in Indiana. Our guest speaker from Citizens Action Coalition will explain how these massive data centers require huge amounts of electricity, and would cause higher rates, more carbon pollution, and water issues.  Read more.

Central Indiana Solar Co-op
Solar protects against future rate hikes! There’s still time to join the Central Indiana Solar Co-op.  The co-op is a free, no obligation program by Solar United Neighbors.  It offers a custom quote from a vetted solar installer selected by co-op members through a competitive bidding process. The co-op also provides technical support through solar and battery storage installations.  Read more.

Green Voter Guide
Get informed for the midterms! The 2026 Green Voter Guide compares the candidates’ views on data centers, utility affordability, clean energy and the environment. Did you know our legislators passed bills to attract data centers, including tax breaks and policies to extend aging coal plants and fast-track new gas and nuclear plants? However, these bills shift costs to ratepayers and increase heat-trapping carbon pollution for years to come.  Find out how your legislators voted in the guide.

Easy Ways to Go Green
Make sustainability your top priority. Everything we do impacts our earth in some way. Change habits that will lessen your impact on our shared home. We can do this together!  Here’s how to calculate your household carbon footprint and some easy ways to go green.  In general, the big sources of carbon emissions for the typical household and business are electricity, transportation and CAFO beef.
